Reno Is Better in September

We’ll say it: Reno is better in September.

The afternoons still feel like summer, but dinner starts sounding good before the sun goes down. Downtown has plenty of energy without quite as much noise. You can take your time again.

At Café Whitney, that change of pace looks different depending on when you walk in. Mornings are coffee, a real breakfast and a plan for the day. Lunch can be a quick table between meetings or an excuse to stay out of the office a little longer. By four, happy hour makes its case. Dinner is whatever the night calls for, from a burger and cocktail to a few plates, a bottle of wine and no immediate interest in leaving.

Pride Takes Over Virginia Street

September also brings Northern Nevada Pride back downtown. Our annual Pride Drag Brunch with Haus Does Moore is already sold out, which tells you just about everything you need to know.

We love being part of a weekend that brings this much color, personality and community to Virginia Street. If you have a table, we’ll see you at brunch. If you missed it, consider this your reminder not to wait next year.

The Menu Is Turning Toward Fall

September also marks the beginning of a shift in the kitchen. Our fall menus are on the way, with changes coming to lunch, dinner and brunch.

We are not going to spoil every detail yet. The point is not to force pumpkin into places it has no business being. It is to make the menu feel right for the season: a little warmer, a little richer and still unmistakably Café Whitney.

Maybe that means stopping in for an old favorite before the menu changes. Maybe it means coming back once the new dishes land. We support both approaches.

Reno does not need much convincing this time of year. The weather settles down. Downtown fills up for Pride. The menus turn toward fall. There are worse ways to spend September than finding a seat near the Arch and letting the rest of the night figure itself out.
